The open world of Guild Wars 2 is based around discovery and exploration. Check out the content guide for suggestions on how to embark on your adventures, use your compass to find interesting places… Or simply pick a direction you feel like going in and keep going until adventure finds you. Tyria is brimming with characters who have their own back stories and goals. You'll be rewarded for helping them (or messing up their plans) by completing Renown Hearts and dynamic events.

CUSTOMISE YOUR STYLE OF PLAY

When you come across other players in the open world, no one says you have to join their group and help them out, investigate a secret jumping puzzle together, or team up against a deadly world boss. Don't tie yourself down to simply climbing the levels: play your way! Earn experience points by reviving defeated players or rescuing them from an assault of the risen, or even by collecting herbs.

Arm your characters with an arsenal of new weapons as you go along. Every profession uses them in a different way and each character has their own style of play, which you can tweak and customise by unlocking and equipping hundreds of skills and traits. If you want to get straight to playing PvP, go ahead. All players compete at the same level, with access to max-level gear and all the profile options you need to leave your mark. 

If you like fashion, express yourself through character skins. As you equip yourself with new weapons and armour, you unlock new skins in your wardrobe. With thousands of possible combinations available, and a massive selection of collectible dyes, you can really make them yours.

EXPANSIONS AND LIVING WORLD SEASONS

The Expansions and Living World seasons offer unique rewards and new Masteries for you to broaden your character's abilities. Unlock and upgrade your glider in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns; become friends with a stable of mounts with powerful movement skills in Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire; and learn to fish and pilot a skiff in Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons. Each expansion grants access to nine elite specialisations which unlock new weapons, skills and possibilities for your profession. You can also select the revenant profession when you create a character and, in doing so, channel legendary heroes and villains from the history of Tyria. 

The Living World seasons continue the Guild Wars 2 story between expansions and have to be bought separately through your Story Journal or in Gem Store bundles. Play Living World episodes in order to unlock new zones to explore, rewards and Masteries.
